Maine Department of Agriculture LogoAwww! We missed Maine Maple Sunday!!

We still had a good weekend, though. It was the perfect storm of holidays, really. Thursday was the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH)'s birthday - a National holiday here.

Then Friday was the Middle East's Mother's Day - which was cool because my parents were visiting Dubai. Saturday was Nourouz - the Persian New Year. Sunday was the Christian / large bunny holiday of Easter.

But I totally forgot that Maine Maple Sunday is the fourth Sunday in March!

Maine is the second largest maple syrup producer in the US (after Vermont), so every year dozens of sugar houses around the state open their doors to the public for Maine Maple Sunday.

And what a process - did you know that it takes forty gallons of sap to make one gallon of syrup?

It's a bummer we missed it, but next year we'll be home to have a pancake or two, and maybe even some maple cotton candy. Mmm!

We visited a sugar house with Tyler. One of the men there knew your Dad! We had fun, hiked thru a big field, and ate yummy things. Tyler likes sypur in beans and on ice cream. And now all he wants for breakfast are "crackahs" (organic mini wheat waffles) with syrup! We should all go together next year!

I am going to try to tap a tree or two here and make beer with the sap. I'll save a couple for you.

Sweet!

Literally, sweet ... because it's made of maple syrup!

Hahahahaha!
